My First Review of The BLU Studio Energy 2 Phone! The battery on this thing is a monster!

29% battery left after 3 days!
29% battery left after 3 days!

As I mentioned a few days back I ordered a few items from Amazon and have been trying them out for the past several days.

The first one I shall talk about is the BLU Studio Energy 2 phone. The screen is incredibly bright and sharp and the Super AmoLed display is a noticeable improvement over my older BLU Studio X. The one piece aluminum chassis is solid and not all that heavy.

The expanded storage space with 16gb on the phone and an additional 32gb microSD card that I took from my old ME572C tablet is a bonus.

The WiFi works great with my new TP-Link AC1200 router and I can’t go anywhere around my house or yard, out to about 100ft, without getting 135mbps. The extra ram is a great improvement also, 1.5gb ram really speeds the phone up over the Studio X’s 1.0gb ram.

The camera software is far better than what was on the Studio X and the front camera has been bumped to 5mp. Pictures are good, but not great and it does a very good job of shooting short videos.

All of those improvements are great, but the star of the show here is a 5000 mAh battery. I am at roughly 3 days of solid use and the battery is at 29%. I rather expect it to be near dead sometime tomorrow afternoon. That would be nearly 4 days folks!

Yes, the phone has one issue and that is it absolutely refuses to run the KSWeb Server app for android that my old BLU Studio X ran perfectly. I am guessing it is either the A5 Cortex processor versus the A7 Cortex in the Studio X or a change is the Android on the product, although both are Android 5. This would be a big deal if I did not have a shiny new Asus Z580CA tablet with 4gb ram to use as the occasional backup for the Dragon Touch here.

Last but not least I decided to try the phone out with my Logitech K480 Bluetooth Keyboard and a wireless Logitech mouse plugged in via a micro-full USB adapter. Yes folks…if you want to run your very own 5 inch notebook, this phone can do it for you! The crappy video below will show the short test I did…

All in all I would give this a 5 star rating for anyone looking for a well-built phone, with a decent size screen, decent cameras, plenty of storage and a battery that you can ignore for days at a time and never have to worry about!

Does this look like a server?

The amazing thing about today’s devices is not how big their screen is, nor what operating system there are running. The really big news is the super fast processors and huge amounts of RAM these tiny devices are running!

I am currently writing this post on a Blu Studio X Android cell phone. Yes, on a cell phone folks. It can be done and it is simply amazing the amount of power these little devices have nowadays.

No, it isn’t recommended to use your cell phone as a permanent server, nor  your tablet, but it still means you can literally carry your website in your shirt pocket these days. Think about that, I mean really digest the fact that what it took a rather large noisy, heat generating metallic box that weighed nearly 25 pounds to do just a few short years ago, can now be run on a small plastic cased slate, that doesn’t even need a fan and doesn’t need any wires to connect to your network.

We live in amazing times folks! The KSWeb app can be found on Google play and the BLU Studio X phone, or the Dragon Touch Tablet can be found on Amazon.com.

Note: Since I swap between the tablet and the phone for running this test site, you might be viewing this post on either the Dragon Touch X 10 or the BLU Studio X.

We all know that touchscreens are a pain to keep clean….because, well, we all leave fingerprints!

A little car wax and a t-shirt
A little car wax and a t-shirt

So, over the past few years I have used anything from a damp cloth to glass cleaner to make my tablet/cell phone screens looking clear and bright.

However, none has worked better than some good old fashioned Synthetic car wax. It cleans them up, leaves a smooth, slick surface and so far hasn’t harmed any device I own.

I use a bottle of Turtle Wax Ice, Synthetic wax and it has to be a boatload cheaper than anything you will find specifically meant for a tablet/smartphone! Use a very small amount and a soft cotton t-shirt and your screens will stay bright and smooth for years to come.

That of course is only a suggestion, but my Dragon Touch X10 is looking mighty good tonight.

There is no doubt about it…If you write about stuff that is low priced it takes roughly 3 days before ruining my plans and raising prices!

cartman_angry_animated_gifSo I have been waiting on my tax return, in order to purchase cool stuff to write about and the day I am notified that the return has been deposited, you guessed it! Yeah, both items I was waiting to order went up in price!

I have but one word for the folks on Amazon and Newegg…. “UP YOURS!”

Yes I know that is 2 words, uh right now I am so angry that I could say even more…so I won’t and I shall wait and watch for both the Blue Energy 2 Android phone and the  Asus Z580CA to drop back to a reasonable level.

In the meantime I shall shop for alternatives. Who knows, maybe the Chinese websites have cool stuff? It is all made over there anyway…
