Today’s First Video Worth Posting: Put A Case On That Phone!

Originally posted 2018-07-01 14:34:39.

This is one we just posted on YouTube less than an hour ago. I sort of go over the reasons why you should slap a case, any case, onto that new overpriced smartphone you just bought.

All too often the reviewers out there will mention the phone comes with a case and toss it aside during unboxing, rather than putting it on right then and there and stressing the fact that even a cheap TPU case will minimize damage.

So obviously this is from our channel here and make sure to like the video and subscribe!

Okay, not much else to say, so let us get right to that video!

That is all for now, except please subscribe to our channel or click those big donation buttons on the website here!

So Today I Got The Strangest Phone Call At Work: Probable Scammer Or Prank Call?

Trust No One…unless you can look them in the eye.

Now I have had a few of my domains hacked in the last few years and managed to fix them with a bit of effort. But today I got a call that is still driving me nuts.

So about 3:40 PM CST today I get a call from this number: 773-571-1203 (and yeah, if it was a prank, sorry, but if it was a scammer, not sorry). The number in question is a cell number and feel free to text them or re-publish this info in any manner you see fit. Payback is a bitch, although I suspect it was cloned, but, what the hell.

I have dealt with scammers many times when selling stuff on Craigslist and all sorts of other situations, usually involving text or emails, but this call came into our business number at work from a Chicago area code that made it unlikely that it was business and then it got real suspicious. First of all I don’t believe I have ever associated my name with our business or our website. So that makes it most likely a prank, but if so, well hopefully  someone will take my advice and publish there number as I am doing.

The caller asked for me by name and then proceeded to to tell me my “personal website” was insecure. So I responded by asking him about which domain he was speaking of, since I own several, (note here, never tell the caller the names of your domains), and he only kept responding, “you know”. First of all I no longer have a personal domain anywhere, that ended when moving and putting stuff onto a remote host.

At this point after repeatedly asking for what domain I should be concerned about the asshat on the phone terminated the call.

First of all, all my domains, which can easily be looked up on a whois search are associated to MY phone number, not my work phone . So that sets off immediate warning bells. When dealing with an unknown caller, never give them ANY information, because that is exactly what they are fishing for.

So one more time: the cell number in question is: 773-571-1203

That is all I have for now,

Tim

Time For An Original Tablet Server Video: This One On Looks and Light Weight and Other Nitpicky Crap!

If you are looking for an absolutely bleeding edge tablet or notebook then you can quit reading right now. What follows is common sense and a reality check.

The bottom line is whether or not you “need” the latest bleeding edge tablet or whether the latest and greatest tablet/ laptop is truly what you need.

Personally, since I am someone who can make things work, having an engineering background, I simply don’t care how thin the bezels are and I do not give a damn what color a tablet is. Technology is not a fashion contest, nor is it really a contest about something that weighs less, is thinner or has the latest processor.

Technology is about what gets the job done for you! Buying a car because it is lighter and has more horsepower is fine, if you are going to race it, but seriously otherwise it is a complete waste of hard earned money.

If you already own several accessories that require a standard size USB port, why in the hell would you  care about having a USB C type port? Sure, bleeding edge and now you need adapters, etc.

If a tablet is thick does that make it bad? Unless you are a two year old you ought to be able to lift 2 lbs. As far as thin goes, my hand opens to well beyond 10-11 mm and therefore I can grasp said device. Since when is not a few pounds portable? Soldiers regularly heft a whole lot more than that and seem to do okay.

That is all I have for tonight,

Tim

The Not So Subtle Ways the Media Gets Your Attention. How Words Allow Them To Control The Stupid.

Oh My! We Are All Going to Die!

One of the nice things about running a server on a tablet is that all the posts do not have to be about tablets or even computers. After all the real challenge/test here is running a web server off of an 8.5 mm thick, 10.1 inch tablet with a minimal processor and 4 gb ram.

So all that being said, today’s first post is all about the media. You know, the idiots who throw all that climate change crap at you each day? Yeah the same folks that switched up a few years back from “Global Warming” to “Global Climate Change”, when the warming wasn’t happening. The ones who would have you think that you MUST WATCH the weather channel for up to date weather, even though any moron can install Radar Now on their iPhone or Android and see radar which is enough to tell you what is going to happen right now.

The media in general controls those easily misled morons out there, of which there are several billion, with words like “Dangerous”, “Deadly”, “Horrific”,  and any other of a number of terror inducing words. In truth, storms are not usually deadly, especially when one looks at the percentages of folks killed by them. In a years time maybe 1% of the earth’s population is killed directly by storms.

In the USA the big deal every spring/early summer is tornados.  In truth, although they can be quite horrendous if you are in their path, their paths are generally a few miles long and generally less than 100 yards across. 90% dip down to the earth in the middle of farm fields and forested areas and only the rabbits and deer need run for cover, but because they have a brain, they have already scooted out of the way.

There is absolutely zero reason to watch the Weather Channel if you own a smartphone. You can check the weather in about 5 seconds and get updates from any number of free apps out there and not have to endure the pompous asshat “meteorologists” who will explain all those details you don’t need along with 8 minutes of commercials per 1 minute of valuable data.

Next time you are watching the news, do yourself a favor and watch closely and listen to the words these folks use for what are pretty much everyday occurrences and then say to yourself, was that car accident that horrific? Or was that shooting at the local liquor store really a massacre? In general if you analyze the media, you will discover that you are generally being misled by big headlines and very little viable content.

That is all for now,

Tim

It’s late and time for a new post…even if the DTX10/LogiTab will be offline 2Morrow!

A Wireless Mouse? Oh hell yeah!
A Wireless Mouse? Oh hell yeah!

So this week the uptime on the Dragon Touch X10/LogiTab server was roughly 90%! That means a dirt cheap tablet was able to allow me to watch TV shows and stay up as a web server (THIS SERVER) almost all week.

I am continually impressed with it’s usefulness! Both as a basic laptop and a web server to play around on.

It will however be offline on 16 January during the daylight hours as I use it as a tablet/laptop and do what I do on weekends…

However…if you have not purchased one of these dirt cheap handy tablets just yet I shall once again explain why you should.

  • Dragon Touch X10- available for about $119 on Amazon
  • You can find a LogiTech Bluetooth Keyboard (either K480 or K380) for about $30.
  • It has a full USB port which lets you use an optical or wireless mouse.
  • It has great battery life and a decent display for watching video.
  • It won’t break the bank and you can laugh at your friends who own a Samsung or iPad or Surface.
