Today’s Test Project: How Long Can The Hi12 Run As a Server?

Originally posted 2017-06-04 05:52:39.

It isn’t dead yet…after 12 hrs!

I have boasted quite a bit about battery life on the Hi12 and it is quite good, but starting last evening at roughly 6 pm CDT (06/03/17) it was tasked with being the server here.

It is now 0535 hrs and the battery is at….wait for it…..

….patience…. Yep we are at 66%!

Folks that is almost 12 hrs so far and we ain’t  halfway done! Keep in mind this is a tablet using the ComFast dual band adapter, which due to the annoying brilliant blue LED uses a wee bit more energy than one would want, but the trade-off is the super fast WiFi connect, in my case 433 MB/s.

The server you are reading this on IS the Hi12...at least until the battery gives out…so I shall post updates throughout the day.

Latest update, 1815 hrs CDT…17% I have decided at this point that 24 hrs is enough to prove a point and we are now back on the charger!

That is all,

Tim

The HiBook News: This Edition, Finally Got The Server Moved!

Originally posted 2017-12-09 19:33:00.

Eventually this server will end up back on a tablet but for the foreseeable short term future I thought it best to get all the good info on here loaded up onto a full server since I am in the process of moving.

Of course that meant changing a few things such as the URL of the site which no longer contains the :8080 (port 8080) because it is no longer necessary. So if you end up getting an error on a search or from a link on Google, just remove the :8080 part of the address and all should be good.

Obviously there may be some occasional errors, but overall everything should work. I actually created the new database and edited it all on the Hi12 tablet which as usual saved the day. There really isn’t very much that it can’t do when needed.

So please remember to update your book marks and remove that :8080 from the address, thanks!

That is all for now,

Tim

Today’s First Video Worth Sharing: More Testing on the Hi12 With OBS Studio and Openshot

Yesterday I posted about the file size issues on the Zotac when editing a file from OBS Studio into Openshot. Of course the videos looked great, but they went from about 23 Mb to 299 Mb! I solved that issue with a small free program called Handbrake and today I decided to do some testing on the Hi12.

So I did a few videos, edited them together and surprisingly, they were not all that large after editing, maybe 3-5 Mb bigger, But I needed to know if Handbrake would work on the Hi12 as well as it did on the Zotac.

The net result was a decent video with very, very little loss in quality and it reduced the final output from about 98 Mb down to roughly 11 Mb!

So Handbrake could be a great product for you to reduce file sizes by roughly 80% or more. It is also easy to figure out and works quite fast. You can find it right here and it is free Open Source software!

So let us proceed at once to this video! Make sure to like the Video and Subscribe to the new channel, tell all your friends, share it!

After Literally Hours Of Playing About With Settings, I finally have Success Using OBS Studio on the Hi12 Tablet!

It took me virtually all night to get the OBS Studio, display capture software to function on both the HiBook and the Hi12 tablets! Primarily it was simply a matter of resetting the recording devices setting from the task bar in Win 10.

Who knew that these were set to about 5% from the factory? I always thought they just had crappy microphones!

So that being solved it was simply a matter of find a decent resolution for output that wouldn’t bring the processor to a grinding halt when writing back to disk. I settled on the only 720p output available with the better sampling rate and it appears to work well.

The entire video was shot on the Hi12 AND edited on it in OpenShot!

So here is a short video of the results!

As usual, please like the video, please share it and make damned sure to subscribe!
