Category Archives: The Tablet Test Server News

We all know a Win 10 Notebook can run a Server on a Virtual Machine (VM), so….

1-Asus-laptop-sneak-peek-1-300x211As the title states, we all know that a very inexpensive Notebook is easily capable of running a web server, because that is exactly what I am running this site on at this very moment as I write this post!

But since the entire idea of THIS site is to test out tablets as a server and for overall general real-life usage, then someone out there needs to step up and purchase my Asus Tablet! I simply do NOT have the budget to keep buying new tablets at will to test and no one on earth has offered to send me any to test.

So for anyone in my area of the world, all I ask is that you post the link to my craigslist ad and we can only hope someone realizes that they can get a flagship tablet at well over $100 less than retail, with a case/USB C- standard adapter included!

The purchaser of the aforementioned tablet will allow me to purchase a wonderful dual-boot 10 inch class tablet and push it to its extremes, both as a tablet and a server.

Of course if you don’t care, that is ok…poopy happens. After all it is difficult to post/share a link these days.

Another Saturday, Another Report from The Dragon Touch Tablet.

The LogiTab

Saturday is the usual day here for the Dragon Touch Report and today is no differrent. This post is being written on the DTX10 (Dragon Touch X10) in LogiTab mode. Meaning of course I am taking advantage of my LogiTech K480  Bluetooth keyboard and wireless mouse.

As usual the tablet continues to be extremely useful in this capacity. However it is getting to be time to move on to another 10 inch class tablet. The tablet server runs equally well on both the DTX10 and my AsusZ580CA but I am eager to begin testing on a Windows 10 device.

That means that eventually I am going to have to pony up about $200 for a killer 10 inch tablet which is why I am hoping that someone will eventually purchase my Asus Tablet, which happens to be the fastest piece of hardware I own, but simply has too small a screen to make it very useful in LogiTab mode.

The 10.6 inch screen on the DTX10 however works just great. So my next tablet will be a 10 in class tablet and that leads me to a few that I am considering.

First on the list is the Chuwi Hibook which is a dual-boot Win10/Android 5.1 device and has 4gb ram and 64gb onboard storage plus microSD card expandability. The display is also decent at 1920 x 1200, IPS. I have a few others in mind also, but for the price the Chuwi seems to be the best deal and has some very decent reviews.

It is Once Again the Weekend and Time for The Dragon Touch X10 Tablet Report.

IMG_20160703_123621So today I am once again writing this post via the Dragon Touch X10 Tablet using my Bluetooth keyboard (Logitech K480) and a  wireless mouse which if you have visited my site before you will recognize the name I refer to it as…”The LogiTab”.

The server is actually running on my Asus Z580CA tablet and appears to be working flawlessly as usual. Too bad no one has figured out what a good deal it is, since I am selling it for roughly $100 under retail.

Now back to the DTX10 tablet, which is still my favorite device! Sure my PC is a lot faster but that whole thing with the extension cord would suck, as for the notebook that I own, well, the DTX10 will run roughly 6 hrs longer before battery life expires.

So the bottom line is that the Dragon Touch tablet is still the best bang for the buck of any tablet out there! The screen is plenty bright and large enough for an old bastard like me to actually see.

This tablet is still a deal at Amazon or a mere $119, get yourself a keyboard and a mouse and you have a portable notebook for under $160!

So in closing I shall just remind everyone that fireworks can be dangerous. So before you burn your house to the ground or blow half your hand off, be safe this weekend and try to not be part of the evening news!

Happy July 4th America!

After a Full Week of Running a Server on the Asus Z580CA I have Reached Some Conclusions.

IMG_20160528_013153
The Asus Z580CA

For the last week I have run this server almost exclusively on the Asus Z580CA tablet and am very pleased with the results. The Dragon Touch X10 handles server chores quite well, but having 4gb of ram really does make a difference. The Asus can be used for multiple chores while still running the server with no visible lags on the device at all.

I am in fact using the Asus to type up this post tonight, although the server is running on the Dragon Touch this evening. I am always amazed at how well it works when using a Bluetooth keyboard and wireless mouse.

So now onto performance as a server. As I stated previously it runs flawlessly as a WordPress platform. More importantly, when setup correctly, it will run easily for 12 hrs on battery. The way this is done on this device is to simply plugin a wireless mouse and the WiFi will never sleep. The screen will stay off all day and therefore the prime user of battery is eliminated.

With the Dragon Touch the only way I  can get the wireless to stay awake is leaving the screen on, fully dimmed with Chrome running on a blank page, with no tabs open and therefore mostly black screen. For those who are thinking why not set the wireless to always on, and that simply doesn’t actually work on either of these tablets. Why, I do not know, I have tried every possible setting in settings, to no avail.

My conclusion is that overall, the far better server platform is the Asus Z580CA. I know, most folks are not interested in running a web server on their tablet, but for those who are, or maybe just want to try it, the Asus is the better choice.

Dealing with idiots; A continuing saga on those who do not read.

IMG_20160528_013153Apparently here in the south no one has learned to read beyond a headline. Folks I am frankly tired of trying to sell my Asus Z580CA tablet, which I am offering for $100 off retail. However I still keep getting contacted by folks who are confusing it with the Z580C.

It ain’t the same tablet folks. The ad clearly states this fact but again and again I get rednecks asking about getting something for nothing. Frankly every offer I have gotten was insulting and  made the one contacting me get instantly classified as a fool.

So for the very last time here is the link to the ad, and no, the price is what it is! Read the whole damned ad!

Update, same night, much later…1 reply on the ad. Another person thinking they were contacting their local church or the federal government…apparently “read the whole damned ad” was not unclear but beyond their comprehension level.
