Category Archives: The Tablet Test Server News

Maybe it’s time for a new post! Tonight, how to direct traffic to your server through your wireless router.

maxresdefaultSo how does he do it? I know you are asking yourself that question! So the answer is simple really, really simple. It’s called port forwarding and address reservations. Yep that’s all you need to do.

The first thing you want to do is figure out the Mac address of your tablet. Easily done using your router’s control program. Look in your DHCP client list and it will generally be obvious which device is your tablet. You can install the NETWORK INFO II app from Google Play to find your current IP.

Now you simply go into forwarding, or on some router’s, virtual servers and direct the web port, which when using KSWeb is 8080 to the IP address.

From now on all traffic on port 8080 will go to your tablet. Pretty damned simple isn’t it? Virtually any newer router will be able to do this. Of course I run all my other servers on port 80 so the traffic is nicely separated. Sure there are probably high end router’s that can do a lot more, but if I can do this using a $14 TP-Link router most any router will do the trick.

So ends tonight’s lesson. Post via android Asus ME572 tablet, using a phone hotspot to uplink from the local laundramat.

Server crashed today…but let’s remember this is running on a Tablet

1-Internal-Server-500iseThe server crashed today with the ubiquitous Internal Server Error 500. This isn’t exactly a new thing when you are asking a Tablet to stay up and running several days in a row. No big deal, got home restarted KSWeb and all has returned to normal.

This isn’t exactly the most stable, nor powerful platform on earth from which to run a server. But the point is to show just how powerful this little Tablet is and advertise the fact that all the other apps ran just dandy. My guess is that it simply ran out of memory or a process got locked into a loop.

First impressions, Asus X553SA Laptop (Video included)

So yesterday I picked up the new Asus laptop from Best Buy. I am happy to report that it works very well. Setup was a matter of charging it for a few hours and hitting the on button.

Windows 10 ran a few updates and then I immediately installed Chrome as the browser and removed any bloatware that was pre-installed.

As far as speed goes it is quite fast and considering the price of $199 the sound and display quality are well above average! It could use more than 2 USB ports but I can always add a USB hub.

The keyboard has nice large keys and a huge trackpad which works great. It picked up my Logitech wireless mouse and the HP printer and those function perfectly with no setup issues at all.

So all in all I would give this product a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

(I apologize for the video quality, since I failed to set a decent frame rate while screen capturing).

For the clueless among you CWS means can’t write shit! Folks it is all well and good to register, but please write a post or leave a comment.

Obviously I am not going to tolerate spam, but it would be a welcome change from the deafening silence that is currently occurring.

Thanks,

Tim
