Solved a Jetpack Publicize Issue on The Tablet Server Today. Publicize Should Now Work.

1-jetpack-logoAfter weeks of not being able to get the automatic sharing function in the Jetpack plugin to work I finally realized that I had overlooked a single commonality among the 3 different devices that I run the server from. That was the port. The error code I kept getting was:  Error code: -32601

The only thing all 3 Virtual Machines have in common down to the most minute detail is the port the server runs on. This server operates on port 8080 allowing me to forward it to different platforms simply by forwarding to the device IP.

So tonight I finally set it to run for a short while on port 80 (the default http port) and low and behold I was able to connect Facebook and Twitter to this blog. I have since switched it back, so I could bring all my other servers back online since they all run on a single machine on port 80. So if this post shows up on Facebook and Twitter I will consider the issue resolved.

If not you can go to the nearest window, my groans of agony will still be echoing, through the night.

I Was Just About to Give Up on Running Revive (Ad Server) on a Tablet Until… I Looked Closely at The Errors

saturn-v
Uh Houston, We might no longer have a problem.

As I mentioned in a previous post: ” I have not yet begun to test”,  and that is still where I am at today! So I did find an error that caught my attention when reading through the Apache error log(s).

Remember, I had tried this on 2 different platforms and had the same results. I also had the same damned error! This error began with this line:

PHP 1. {main}() /var/www/tabletserver/index.php:0

Yeah, THAT error, the one that was my fault for copying the KSWeb app default index.php page which was causing the damned error quoted above. I have now fixed that file and re-installed the latest version of the Revive Ad Server.

Hopefully, this will fix my errors but only time will tell.

The Chuwi Got the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. All is Well, but Some Words of Caution

low-disk-space-warningSo this evening my  Chuwi HiBook Tablet was updated to the Windows 10 Anniversary Edition. It appears to have several improvements, but like all things Microsoft based it left behind a trail of files that were just sucking up space on the C:\ drive.

Now of course if this were a desktop or even my laptop, the temp files and old installation files would be no big deal, considering the size of the hard drives on devices such as these. However when you are dealing with a dual-boot Tablet that only had a 44 gb partition to start with and are running a few dozen extra programs and a Virtual Machine (VM) using about 10 gb space already, I was rather dismayed to find that I had a mere 1.8 gb free after this update.

That folks is red zone territory. Win 10 needs some disk space for the pagefile.sys file, also known as a swap file and a few downloads or another update from Microcrap could kill all the space. So before you start any updates do yourself a favor and kill off all files allowed in Disk Cleanup. Now immediately after the install and making sure all is working,  run Disk Cleanup again and kill off all those temp/extra system files again. I gained roughly 11gb of space back after doing the disk cleanup.

To run Disk Cleanup simply type those words into the search bar on the taskbar. You can also find numerous articles on how to use disk cleanup by running a search on Google.

Chuwi HiBook and the Revive Ad Server: Had to do a Re-Install

revive-login1Last week I installed the Revive Ad Server Software onto this server here and it functioned well for a few days.

However, lately I was seeing a ton of error messages  in my Apache server logs and banners quit showing or worse yet I was getting Internal Server Error (500) messages.

So I went ahead and completely reinstalled the software, but not before taking a few precautionary steps. First I made sure that the web server account owned the directory that I was installing to. Next I increased the PHP memory limit to 128 MB. Then I ran a clean install to a new directory and an empty database.

So far it appears to be working quite well, although time will tell. I am still a bit confused by the installation instructions that tell me the install will tell me which directories need to have permissions changed. That particular information does not come up during the installation, (previous versions I tried on other servers did have this info), nor is there much info available in the release notes nor the read-me file. So far I left permissions set just as the installation file set them.

I also recreated the testuser account for anyone wishing to play with the software. See this article for more info.

I certainly would appreciate any feedback from folks trying out the ad server or just any general feedback on how the ads are functioning.

Sometimes a Battery Powered Server is a Great Idea! (Especially in Sub-Standard Infrastructure Kentucky)

aging-infrastructureSo today was a typical Kentucky Saturday with nice warm temperatures and a complete failure of the local MediaCom Cable service.

That was quickly followed up by a power outage, which killed my primary Dell server.  So here I sit 25 miles away and the only thing I can update or post to is my trusty Chuwi HiBook. Why is that?,  you might ask. The answer is quite simple, this server runs on a tablet and is running happily along on battery power with more than 75% power remaining.

The Dell however can’t magically turn itself back on. Well it could, but I forgot to setup the port forwards for my Wake on LAN app on my phone.

So this will suffice for now and this is all I have for the HiBook News this weekend.
