Finally Remembered That I Can Actually Turn on the Firewall on This Server.

firewall-setup1This Linux based server has been running on this VM for quite a while on the Chuwi HiBook tablet and being used to running previous tablet based servers in Android, I completely forgot that I could turn on the Linux Firewall.

So starting last night I began looking through the server logs for entries which don’t belong and adding the IP’s to my Firewall, “drop” list. Because IP addresses can change I usually block an entire segment, like 123.123.123.X, where x=all 254 available addresses.

This will likely as not cut folks off from being able to connect to this site, but that is the reality of having a hacker in your neighborhood. 1 bad apple does indeed spoil it for a large number of folks.

So far I have only killed off a few sets of IP’s but the list will grow. On my primary server I have about half of China and half of France blocked off.

That’s about it for this morning.

Tonight’s Video Worth Sharing: The Dell XPS 15 After 2 Weeks

Originally posted 2018-05-16 18:48:13.

This one comes to us from Andrew over at AMDTech and covers the latest Dell XPS 15 2 in 1 laptop/tablet/convertible device.

It comes packed with a lot of features like the Intel Core i7-8705G processor and 16 gb ram, along with 256 GB of SSD storage.

It is fast, looks great, has a fantastic display and does most everything well. However it has a few downsides such as battery life and the web cam placement, watch the video to learn the details on those.

It will do a very respectable job of playing games and can obviously do well at any business application you throw at it.

So let us get right to that video!

That is all for now, except please subscribe to our channel or click those big donation buttons on the website here!

The New Zotac Mini-PC Absolutely Destroys the Old Dell Optiplex with a Very Good WD 1TB Hard Drive

Originally posted 2017-02-21 22:37:31.

I know I posted some disk drive speed tests when I first got the Zotac CI323 Mini-PC with a nifty Silicon Power 240GB SSD.

The bottom line here… the Dell and the Western Digital drive are absolutely no match in a straight up  drive test. The numbers are not even close! Obviously we are comparing a much old Dell to a PC that is much faster, but still…

Well I won’t say anything more… here are the Disk scores…incidentally, the Zotac, scored just about the same as the first time I tested it.

Here are the first tests on the Zotac SSD….

The results above are almost uncanny, truly coincidental and I have no clue why they are identical, although I am not complaining.

That covers testing for tonight,

Tim

Previously I Was Actually Considering One of The Teclast X5 Pro Tablets, No More…

Originally posted 2017-02-11 18:17:31.

While the Teclast X5 Pro is a very, very good tablet, after watching the video in this post, I simply can not justify the cost. Simply put, the tablet that was tested had issues and also had a sub-par screen and brightness.

Perhaps if I was a gamer I would be all over this tablet, but I prefer tablets that can be used in a variety of situations, with long battery life and have at least good brightness.

So from my perspective, the Chuwi Hi12 is still at the top of my list. That of course is subject to change, without notice, etc, etc.

So below is a video review…

That is all,
