So the REAL purpose of this site is to Show Folks That a Tablet can Run a Web Server.

Originally posted 2016-03-01 00:47:02.

web-serverSo many of the posts on this site are about the Dragon Touch X10 and yes it is a great tablet, maybe the best buy on earth, now the real purpose of this site it to demonstrate the fact that a tablet can run a server.

This site is basically a site similar to my old Tablet server that server which ran for months on an Asus MEMo  Pad HD 7, eventually got moved onto a virtual Linux server, it now has a variety of articles, primarily about tablets, but on various other tech subjects.

Obviously the addiction to showing people that you can run as small site on something as simple as a Tablet never went away. Call it an addiction, but if you are getting a few dozen to perhaps even 100 visits per day it can be done with a dirt cheap Android Tablet. It is absolutely perfect as a demo site for any sort of business!

As always, stay tuned for the latest news in tablet-based servers and various and random other posts…

Another note here, the server backup for this tablet is an Android phone. Yeah, that’s pretty cool isn’t it?

Tim

Meltdown and Spectre Flaws Pretty Much Affect ALL of Us! PSA Here!

About 48 Hrs ago we all learned about the major flaws in Intel, AMD and ARM architectures that essentially leave all systems powered by these devices open to huge security holes that would allow hackers to essentially steal your data.

Yeah, that is a scary scenario and it means that every corporation, every server, every PC/notebook/laptop/tablet/smartphone is at risk! Check the end of this article for some links on the current info available. You can also Google it to find the latest info.

Ignore the hype for a moment and take a step back.  This might mean a whole new crop of processors based on totally new instruction sets and yeah, it may mean that every device out there now is totally obsolete.

Think about that for a moment, that means literally billions of smartphones, tablets, notebooks, laptops and servers being relegated to the junk pile.

Perhaps we all get patches for what ever operating system we have, but based on what I read this may be just a band-aid process.  Remember this is not really an operating system issue, it is the actual CPU architecture issue. We have essentially been running the same architectures for decades  and it may require a complete re-think from those providing these SoC’s, CPU/GPU’s, etc.

Patching software is easy, and “might” fix the issue, but patching your processor isn’t easy or damned near impossible. So now we wait… and in the meantime hackers are dancing their ‘happy dance’.

On the other hand this does mean that we might seen an entire new generation of processor/motherboard technology and while being expensive for many folks, it might actually mean a huge boom in new device sales in 6 -8 months.

My advice, is to give this issue serious consideration before purchasing any new device, because you might need a new one very shortly to keep your information secure. The last thing I want to do is to keep people from clicking on my ads on this site, but it is my ethical duty to provide this info and therefore I have to post this.

Latest news:

I suggest searching  your favorite search engines to keep up on the latest updates to this absolutely scary flaw in your devices!

Here are a few videos for your education, by no means complete in info, but worth watching!

That is all for this evening,

Tim

The HiBook News: We need some cash!

So as any regular visitor here knows, this site normally has run on a HiBook tablet or even a notebook PC. However because I just moved I had to reorganize everything and put everything onto to a shared hosting site.

Yes, the site is faster, but as we know the entire purpose of this site is to run it on a tablet or notebook and abuse the crap out of the device just to make sure that said device is worth buying.
The HiBook has served as a server for more than 1.5 years and shows no problems. My old Asus X553SA  notebook served for about a year as a backup and the Hi12 has done its fair share of playing server as did my Asus Z580CA tablet.

So where am I going with this post? Well we need some dollars here to fuel the cable company so I can get everything running back here at the new apartment. We are not talking about a fortune here, about $1800 will do the job and get us a new laptop/notebook to abuse and test along with a years worth of cable service.

So bottom line here is I could use some donations. Sure, if you clcik a link on most pages here and purchase something I will make a few dollars! That would be super. Bottom line however is that in the last 12 months I have made about $59 off of adverts/clicks. Considering the roughly 3500 hrs I put in per year to maintain this site and try to provide info, that simply ain’t hacking it.

So now I am going to come out and ask, that if you find this site useful and or informative that you send a small donation.

My promise is that once we achieve at least 50% of the goal that ALL adverts will go away. Of course I will continue to link products in the faint hope that someone uses the link, but by and large all the image type ads will go bye-bye!

Of course you can donate via PayPal! You would be amazed that no matter how small the donation, how much more we could do here! So do not wait, lest we are eaten by dragons…huh? Yeah, If you like the site and the others I run help now by clicking here. Or on the blatant Donate button below…

Donate Now!

I will do my best to make sure all contributions are given credit and I will be sure to visit your web site, and link it also!

That is all for now,
Tim

In 10 Days We Will Have a Total Eclipse, So How About Some Food Ideas For Those Obsessed By 2 Min and 20 Seconds Of Darkness?

Originally posted 2017-08-11 06:35:47.

Remove the lettuce/tomato and add a halo of cheese…Total Eclipse Burger©

The great thing about the tablet server here is that it is meant to test the limits of tablets/notebooks, etc, in addition to providing info about those devices.

But….it also means I can use it to convey other sorts of info that suits me. There are no rules here, except those I enforce such as comments and registration requirements. After all, this is MY domain and my tablets that these are served from, so moving on…

We are a mere 10 days away from a total solar eclipse here in Kentucky and pretty much across a huge swath of the USA. While that offers no excitement to myself, because I just walked outside and noticed the Earth was blocking the sun, or as we normally call it, night….some folks are going to go nuts over this short term daylight darkness and therefore the reason for this post.

So I have a few ideas for the local food joints, whether they be McDonald’s or Taco Bell, etc, or just the locals hosting a party. I do expect that any commercial enterprise reimburse me for my genius, but that is neither here nor there.

So take a moment to look at the image at the top of the article. Yep black bread, now imagine if you will a sandwich using that bread with a slightly larger circular piece of cheese creating the same halo effect the eclipse will! Yeah, that would be an Eclipse Burger© or more specifically a Total Eclipse Burger©! Or Eclipse Sandwich© of any sort!

Or how about a pizza with ground beef in the middle surrounded by a golden circle of cheese! Yeah, the Eclipse Pizza ©! Same with a circular plate of nachos…can ya hear me Taco Bell?

If you want to know how to make that black bread, read this article I found. No need to thank me for my brilliance, just send money!

And now a word from the Hi12 server:

That is all from the skunk works this evening,

Tim
