Okay, Sometimes Plans Just Do Not Work Out! But There is a Silver Lining, Like an Asus Z580CA Tablet!

EVERY-CLOUD-HAVE-A-SILVER-LININGSo my overall plans for my recent purchases was to use the new BLU Studio Energy 2 as a backup, because it has a huge battery. But, no matter what I do, including wiping the device twice, it won’t run the KSweb app as a server.

However, the new tablet, well, another story totally. Not only does the Z580CA from Asus run it, it does it just as fast as the Dragon Touch X10! The ME572C had definite issues with speed when running as a backup, but the new tablet just handles it perfectly!

This is probably a simple issue with the BLU Studio Energy 2, but it is minor, because the phone itself is a huge step forward from the BLU Studio X it replaced. The display is better, the storage is better and the battery is HUGE! I intentionally ran it all day, leaving it set at a 5 min display timeout and left it running on WiFi, downloaded a bunch of stuff and still had 65% battery after 14 hrs of heavy use!

So in both cases I am happy to have purchased the BLU Studio Energy 2 and the Asus Z580CA (also known as a Zenpad 8). So there will always be a backup server here…just not the one I had intended.

Incidentally the Blu Energy 2 is still getting a minimum of 3 days battery life after over a year of use!

Tonight’s Video Worth Sharing: New Years Recipe For Tech, Sort Of

Tonight’s video title might have been a bit misleading, but of course that was the point! Not that the content wasn’t worthwhile, in fact I think it was worth doing the video!

But all too often we run into “hands on” video unboxings, that are really not worthwhile because the twit who made them uses lots of stock video from the mfg and provides zero extra info, nor is there a voice. These I give a thumbs down to, but of course I see the number of views and am always astounded that they get that sort of traffic.

So I am just seeing whether adding the word recipe into the title and also putting in tags referring to the recipe in the video generate ridiculous numbers of views.
By the way, the recipe is legit, cheap and what helps keep my budget low as I wait for folks to subscribe and share and participate!

I shot this using my handy gooseneck mount. Quite the handy tool!

Of course many folks will get upset with the video because they will feel mislead! That is what led me to make the video in the first place!

So let us get right to that video…

That is all for now, except please subscribe to our channel or click those big donation buttons on the website here!

Dammit Tim! Quit Cloning Around!

Strangely alike, these two.
Strangely alike, these two.

Sometimes we do things without realizing and other times we just become creatures of habit, but I was staring at my 2 displays tonight, on the Chuwi Tablet and on the Dell PC monitor…

Looks like I could use a little variety in my desktop display choices. On the other hand, a P51 Mustang is a killer aircraft, no pun intended and has to be one of the finest propeller driven aircraft ever produced, although there is a good argument for the Spitfire also, but both share that Rolls-Merlin engine.

Just an observation here. Nothing technical to discuss. But hell, the purpose of the tablet test server is to simply see what it can do, so post content is sometimes less important than posts themselves. I also checked the Asus notebook, yeah same desktop look. But I am happy to report that the Linux Lite VM on  the tablet has a Lamborghini desktop image and the Asus Linux Lite VM has the image seen below.

ME572C Comes Through Again! Great Tablet!

My Network Toolbox
My Network Toolbox

I don’t always take the Dragon Touch with me but I always carry the Asus ME572C along everywhere I go…

This little 7 inch ME572C Asus never ceases to amaze me. Today I was out and about and realized that one of the yourfreewordpress demo sites was broken.

So what did I do? I installed a couple of free FTP clients and it did take a bit of time but I was able to fix demo site 3 on that server.

Not bad for an inexpensive, little tablet! I was running numerous apps all at once and checking football scores and highlights and there wasn’t a single slowdown or glitch from this tablet.

If you can still find one of these online I still recommend it as one of the best tablets you can buy for the money. Bonus news, it fits in your back pocket!

Tonight I Did My Taxes And My Return Will Be Okay, But….

Originally posted 2018-02-01 23:36:08.

As the title states, I did my taxes, filed electronically and hopefully should see a return that will pay the cable bill for a year and perhaps a month’s rent.

Yeah, living on your own ain’t cheap and we need to have stuff to test as usual, this being tax time I would have already ordered the Chuwi LapBook Air or the tiny GPD Win 10 or perhaps another 2-3 devices except cash flow here is at a minimum!

So here is the deal, the folks who donate to the site at a level of a whopping 1 dollar, will be entered to win the legendary HiBook Tablet! I of course will come up with the giveaway videos, etc in the next few days. Who knows, if you were to share this article, perhaps we would have enough donations that I could give away more cool stuff.

I want to bring testing back into the home here and have total control of the server(s) and test the crap out of whatever device I can get my hands on! It might appear to be a strange thought to you, but think about this, what other site on earth has run most of its life on a tablet? Yeah, go check, we are the only idiots doing this stuff!

Tablets, notebooks, anything mobile gets put into service as a web server. So click the damned donate link and help us reach our rather minimal goal of $1800, or if you happen to be a manufacturer send us your product and we WILL beat the crap out of it and offer unbiased reviews!

So click here to donate and I will ask no more of your time!

That is all for this evening,

Tim
