Asus Misses Huge Chance to Keep Customers Happy.

Crash and Burn, that is What Happens when You Overlook Support after the sale.

I absolutely love my Asus Z580CA tablet, but roughly a year after this tablet was released to the public I am still running Android 5.0. Asus has failed miserably in the update department on what is essentially one of the best tablets they have ever produced.

This failure is the reason that they lag well behind in sales to Samsung and Apple. No one wants to deal with a company that produces a product and then once sold forgets the customer. Ask anyone in any business of any kind and they will tell you that in order to get returning customers you must, without exception, update and support the products you sell.

In today’s highly competitive global tablet market there is absolutely zero excuse to not update a product as soon as possible. What is sold today is wonderful, but you always must consider repeat customers and word of mouth.

To be fair, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the tablet on Android 5.0, it runs well, does everything perfectly, but to say the least I am extemely disappointed by what I and many other customers see as a total failure in at least attempting to get what is essentially a flagship device onto the latest software.

I do realize that this article is not going to help me sell this tablet, but I believe in giving my honest opinons when it comes to devices/companies and what I perceive to be a lack of proper customer support.

So to paraphrase a movie line….”Asus, You have failed me for the last time”.

Since I Covered Screenshots in Windows 10 on a Tablet, Here is the Video!

My previous post covered most of the basics, but for those who must have video I have spent a few hours creating one of how to do a screenshot on your Windows 10 Tablet.

I shot the video using a free video capture program but needed to find a way to add audio. I found that Windows 10 has a built-in audio recorder so I shot the video first and then did my best to record an audio track while I watched it. It is slightly out of sync, but it does get the point across.

Incidentally this was all done on the Chuwi HiBook, then edited on the very same tablet in a Virtual Machine running Linux Lite 3.2, in a program called Openshot, which is a free video editor. It took a bit to get all the options in OpenShot right so we could have audio/video, but once done the result was not bad.

So without further introduction, here is the video…

That about covers it! Well not quite, obviously you are curious about that Openshot video editor I mentioned, so I did a video…

It’s Almost Official, The Asus X553SA Is For Sale!

Originally posted 2017-02-10 21:33:45.

Since I am pretty much hooked on getting myself one of those Chuwi HI12 tablets I wrote about last night and because I am not willing to part with the nifty Chuwi HiBook, I have decided to offer up the Asus Notebook, that occasionally runs this server, for sale.

Note: Yeah, if folks who visited this site actually clicked the adverts and links here and bought stuff, I would get to keep my notebook, but that simply isn’t the case.

In this case however, this may take awhile because I am not going to settle for less than $200! The specs are decent, the notebook, (laptop if you wish), is reliable, reasonably fast and does day to day computer chores as well as anything I have ever owned.

It is not by any means a gaming device, but it will suffice for basic Office type tasks such as browsing the web, watching videos and movies and editing spreadsheets, etc. In a pinch you can also install a Virtual machine on it and run Linux to edit videos, etc.

I just checked Amazon today and this model is still for sale at $270, so $200 is a fair price. Below is a quick picture I shot to show screen size.

Specs are as follows:

  • Asus X553SA 15.6 inch laptop/notebook
  • 4 gb DDR3 Ram
  • 500 gb Hard Drive
  • 1 x USB 3.0 port
  • 1 x USB 2.0 port
  • HDMI out
  • VGA out
  • SD card reader
  • Webcam
  • DVD ROM
  • RJ45 Lan, 10/100/1000 mbps
  • WiFi /b/g/n (max 150 mbps)
  • 4.5 hrs avg battery life
  • Windows 10 Home 64 bit
  • Charger/power supply included

If you live in my area, you might be interested in the Craigslist posting. If not, do not waste my time…

The Old Dell Optiplex 745 is Still For Sale, No Inquiries Yet

Originally posted 2017-02-05 13:55:22.

The Old Server

As hard to believe as this may be, after over a month on Craigslist I have yet to have a single inquiry about my old Dell PC.  I do know that where I live in the USA is far from tech central and lots of folks just don’t understand a good bargain because the locals in this area are notorious cheapskates, but not even one of the usual scammer inquiry has me puzzled.??

So in an effort to get the word out I am wasting good database space on the tablet server here and posting a video and a link to craigslist.

So below is a video, shot and edited on the Dell in Linux.

Here are the links for folks either in the Clarksville area or Western Kentucky for the advert craigslist.

The specs are easy, 2.66 ghz Intel Duo core, 1 TB Hard drive 8 gb ram

That is all,

Tim
